“Explosion on Railway Track Disrupts Services in Assam”

Railway services in Lower Assam and parts of northern Bengal were disrupted in the early hours of Thursday following an explosion caused by unidentified individuals detonating an improvised explosive device (IED) on a railway track in Kokrajhar district. The detonation occurred approximately five kilometers from Kokrajhar railway station en route to Salakati after midnight, according to officials.

The blast resulted in the destruction of nearly three feet of railway line, with fragments of the damaged track scattered several meters away, as reported by an official at the scene. Fortunately, there were no casualties or train derailments reported in the incident, confirmed Kokrajhar Senior Superintendent of Police, Pushpraj Singh.

The damaged section of the track was promptly repaired, allowing train services to resume. However, train operations were temporarily suspended overnight, impacting various Up and Down trains in Lower Assam and northern West Bengal until around 8 am, as mentioned by another official.

Railway and security personnel conducted extensive inspections of the affected area before fully restoring services. Authorities have heightened security measures along the railway route and initiated an investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for the explosion.
