A recent video released by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has put Pakistan’s military leadership in an uneasy spotlight, as one of its senior commanders directly challenges Army Chief General Asim Munir. The video, unveiled earlier this week, features Commander Ahmad Kazim, a prominent figure within the TTP, taunting Munir in a confrontational and defiant manner.
Kazim, in the video, directly challenges Munir, daring him to face their group and engage in combat. The footage also includes visuals from the October 8 attack on the Jogi military fort in Kurram Agency’s Dogar area, claiming responsibility for the assault that resulted in the death of at least 22 Pakistani soldiers, although the Pakistan Army has confirmed 11 casualties.
Known as the TTP’s shadow governor, Kazim leads a faction known for its deadly ambushes and cross-border attacks. In the video, he criticizes Munir for allegedly risking soldiers’ lives instead of confronting militants himself, marking a rare and audacious personal assault on Pakistan’s army chief.
The video showcases captured military equipment, such as a quadcopter drone, 20 rifles, and two Toyota Hilux vehicles, reportedly seized during the operation. Analysts suggest that these visuals are part of the TTP’s psychological warfare strategy to assert dominance and undermine the morale of the military.
Pakistan’s Interior Ministry has confirmed placing a PKR 10 crore bounty on Kazim for his involvement in a series of attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Security experts note the strategic timing of the video release, coinciding with escalating tensions along the Afghan border and growing internal unrest. The TTP seems keen on exploiting what they view as a leadership crisis within Pakistan’s security forces. As of now, the Pakistan Army has not issued an official response to the video.
