“Trump Defends Transparency in $250M White House Ballroom Project”

US President Donald Trump addressed concerns about transparency surrounding the $250 million White House ballroom project on Wednesday, which is set to replace the East Wing of the White House.

In a press briefing, Trump responded to Reuters correspondent Jeff Mason’s question regarding transparency by showcasing mockup photos of the golden ballroom. He defended his actions, stating that the plans had been widely shared through the White House website, press releases, briefings, and newspapers.

Trump criticized reporters who had not acknowledged the transparency of the project, calling Mason a “third-rate reporter.” He emphasized that the ballroom project had received positive reviews and was a source of pride. Construction on the new 90,000-square-foot ballroom, designed to accommodate nearly 999 guests, had commenced after the demolition of the East Wing facade.

The president asserted that the project was being funded by private entities, including patriotic individuals and American companies. He justified the need for a larger venue for state dinners, citing the inadequacy of the current East Room and outdoor tent arrangements.

Trump concluded by stating that his administration had been exceptionally transparent throughout the process. While the National Capital Planning Commission had not yet given formal approval, the White House maintained that demolition on federal property did not require additional authorization.

The project has sparked debate, with supporters lauding the initiative and critics questioning the need for such an extravagant addition to the White House.
