Apple has announced its plan to introduce OLED displays to more of its products. The next device in line to receive this upgrade is the iPad Mini. As per information from tipster Instant Digital, the upcoming iPad Mini 8 will be the first compact iPad to switch from LCD to OLED technology. The device is anticipated to be launched in 2026. Here are the key details about the OLED iPad Mini.
Will iPad Mini feature an OLED display?
The iPad Mini is set to become the second iPad model to incorporate an OLED screen, following the iPad Pro. OLED displays offer significant enhancements in color accuracy and contrast compared to LCD screens.
Reports suggest that the iPad Mini 8 with an OLED display is likely to be released in the third quarter of 2026. However, it is expected that the display will retain a 60Hz panel, as Apple has no immediate plans to introduce ProMotion to the smaller iPad model. This means that while the visual experience will be enhanced, daily interactions and Apple Pencil usage may not differ much from previous iPad Mini versions. It appears that Apple will reserve the 120Hz OLED panels for the iPad Pro at the moment.
The iPad Air is also projected to receive an OLED display, but not until 2027.
Other Rumored Features of iPad Mini
In addition to the display upgrade, Apple is said to be planning a hardware refresh for the iPad Mini. Leaks indicate that the device might be equipped with the A19 Pro chip, the same chip used in the iPhone 17 Pro, leading to significant improvements in performance and efficiency.
In terms of design, the iPad Mini 8 could see some subtle yet significant changes. According to sources at Bloomberg, Apple may introduce a more water-resistant design for the new iPad Mini, potentially incorporating a novel vibration-based speaker system that eliminates the need for traditional speaker apertures.
Expected Price of iPad Mini 8
Due to the adoption of OLED technology, the iPad Mini 8 is likely to be priced higher. Reports indicate a projected increase of at least $100 (approximately Rs 8,900) in the United States. The previous iPad Mini 7 was launched at $499 (around Rs 44,000) in the US. In India, the starting price for the iPad Mini 7 was Rs 49,900.
