“Kohli Praises Jemimah & Team for Historic World Cup Win”

Star India cricketer Virat Kohli commended Jemimah Rodrigues and the Indian women’s cricket team following their remarkable triumph against Australia in the Women’s World Cup 2025 semi-final in Navi Mumbai. Kohli hailed Jemimah’s outstanding performance and praised the team’s determination and confidence in achieving a remarkable chase against the reigning champions.

In a historic match at the Dr DY Patil Stadium, India achieved a monumental victory on Thursday by chasing down 339 runs, marking the highest successful run chase in women’s ODI history. Jemimah played a sublime innings, scoring an unbeaten 127 off 134 balls as India secured a victory with five wickets in hand and nine deliveries remaining.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) the next morning, the former India captain extended his congratulations to Harmanpreet Kaur’s team for their exceptional display and highlighted Jemimah’s crucial role in the intense contest. Kohli praised the team’s resilience, belief, and passion, describing the victory as a significant achievement.

The win held particular significance as Australia had been dominant in the tournament, having not lost a World Cup match since the 2017 semi-final. Despite India’s challenging run in the group stage with three consecutive defeats, they defied expectations and advanced to the final thanks to Rodrigues’ standout performance.

Jemimah’s century, her third in ODIs and first in the World Cup, laid the foundation for India’s historic win. She formed a crucial 167-run partnership with captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who scored 89 off 88 balls, breaking Australia’s unbeaten streak across two World Cup editions.

Throughout the chase, India remained composed despite early setbacks, with Jemimah showcasing maturity and strategic shot selection, supported by an enthusiastic Navi Mumbai crowd. Her unbeaten innings of 127, featuring 14 boundaries, demonstrated her composure and confidence on the grand stage.

The emotional victory carried immense significance for a team that had faced numerous setbacks in knockout matches over the years, with both Harmanpreet and Jemimah visibly moved by the achievement. With the win, India will now compete against South Africa in the Women’s World Cup final, where a new champion will be crowned.
