Spotify has introduced a new range of Premium subscription plans in India, offering users more options while also adjusting prices for enhanced features. One of the highlights is the Premium Platinum tier, which provides access to lossless audio streaming, a first for Indian listeners.
The updated lineup includes the Premium Lite plan priced at Rs 139 per month, offering ad-free listening at 160kbps audio quality but excluding offline downloads. The Premium Standard plan, costing Rs 199 monthly, reinstates offline listening and boosts audio quality to 320kbps, effectively elevating the previous base plan’s cost.
Moreover, the Student plan now comes at Rs 99 per month, up from Rs 69 previously. The most significant addition is the Premium Platinum plan, priced at Rs 299 per month, which introduces lossless audio streaming and features like Spotify’s AI DJ for playlist curation and song introductions. It also supports AI-powered playlist creation and is compatible with DJ software such as rekordbox and Serato, making it the priciest plan in India.
The Platinum tier focuses on family convenience, allowing up to two additional household members with separate accounts. This aligns it more closely with competitors’ offerings that include lossless audio and family sharing. The dedicated Spotify Family plan, previously priced at Rs 229 per month without lossless audio and new AI features, also emphasized family sharing.
These new plans are currently available to new users in specific markets such as India, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the UAE. Current subscribers will not be subjected to the price adjustments unless they opt to upgrade, according to Spotify’s statement. Just a few months after increasing prices in various regions, including India, Spotify has implemented these new Premium plans, essentially resulting in a price increase.
