Avishkar Salvi, the bowling coach, shared an update on Richa Ghosh’s condition ahead of India’s Women’s World Cup match against Bangladesh on Sunday, October 26, at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. In the previous game against New Zealand at the same venue, Richa injured her finger on her left hand while attempting to handle a wide delivery from Renuka Singh. She initially continued to keep wickets but was later replaced by Uma Chetry as a wicketkeeping substitute after leaving the field.
Salvi confirmed that Richa is doing well and is being closely monitored by the medical team. “Richa is fine. The medical team is keeping an eye on her, and she seems to be in good shape,” Salvi mentioned during the pre-match press conference.
Addressing the need for improvement in India’s bowling performance during the death overs, Salvi praised the younger players for their dedication and hard work. Despite struggles in defending targets against South Africa and Australia and falling short in a chase against England, the team bounced back strongly with a 53-run (DLS) victory over New Zealand.
Looking ahead, regardless of the outcome of their final league match, India is set to finish fourth in the points table and has already secured a spot in the semifinals. They are scheduled to face Australia, who defeated South Africa on Saturday at Holkar Stadium in Indore.
Salvi emphasized the importance of continuous learning for the young bowling attack and acknowledged the challenges posed by dew affecting the ball. He stressed the team’s commitment to improving their performance, particularly in the slog overs. The coach highlighted the team’s focus on rectifying execution errors identified during matches and practice sessions.
