Google has introduced a significant AI update for its Photos app, featuring conversational editing, new image templates, and expanded support across various regions and devices, including the viral Nano Banana tool. This update, announced recently, aims to streamline photo library management, enhancement, and search functions for users in the US, India, and more than 100 other countries.
A notable addition to the platform is the new “Ask” button, allowing users to interact directly with their photos. By simply tapping the button, users can request photo edits, ask questions about image content, or explore related moments using natural language input for quick application of desired edits.
To utilize the Nano Banana tool on Google Photos, users can access it directly within the photo editor by selecting the “Help me edit” tab. This feature enables users to generate AI portraits or themes, such as transforming images into Renaissance portraits or following viral Nano Banana trends like 4K retro images.
Moreover, Nano Banana offers options to modify and enhance images, including personalized facial editing. Users can make specific requests like “Remove Riley’s sunglasses, open my eyes, make Engel smile and open her eyes,” leveraging private face data for precise edits while prioritizing user privacy.
The update introduces a new set of AI-driven templates initially available in the US and India, accessible through the Create tab. These templates facilitate easy image generation or enhancement with popular prompts like “put me in a high fashion photoshoot” or “create a professional headshot,” powered by the Nano Banana model for efficient editing in common scenarios.
Additionally, personalized templates are in the works, utilizing insights from a user’s gallery to generate unique edits based on individual hobbies and experiences. These templates are set to launch for US users in the near future, offering tailored creative options for more personalized editing experiences.
Expanding on conversational editing, previously available on Android, iOS users in the US can now benefit from this feature. The redesigned photo editor supports voice or text input for edit requests, with automatic application of changes like smile adjustments or background removal, ensuring a consistent editing experience across platforms.
Enhancing search capabilities, the update includes the rollout of “Ask Photos” to over 100 new countries, supporting 17 additional languages such as Hindi, Bengali, and Marathi for improved image search functionality within the app.
