“US Military Strikes Drug Vessel, Crew Survives”

In a unique development in the fight against suspected drug traffickers, the US military conducted a recent operation targeting a suspected drug vessel in the Caribbean. Notably, this strike resulted in survivors among the crew, marking a significant departure from previous incidents.

While a US official acknowledged the strike to Reuters on the condition of anonymity, further details were withheld, citing the operation as an evolving situation. The Pentagon has refrained from commenting on the matter.

This operation underscores President Donald Trump’s intensified efforts against narcoterrorists, a term used by his administration to describe armed drug-trafficking networks allegedly linked to Venezuela. A senior administration official emphasized the necessity and legality of these actions in safeguarding American lives.

In contrast to past actions that resulted in casualties, particularly off Venezuela’s shores where previous strikes claimed the lives of 27 individuals, Thursday’s strike stands out. Previous operations showcased drug boats being destroyed without survivors, as depicted in videos released by the Trump administration. This recent incident could signify a pivotal moment in what critics view as a covert maritime conflict unfolding in the Caribbean.

On the international front, Venezuela has lodged accusations against the US for breaching international law. Venezuelan Ambassador Samuel Moncada penned a letter to the United Nations Security Council urging condemnation of what he termed as the “killing of civilians in international waters.” Moncada stressed that the vessels targeted were civilian and called for accountability to uphold the sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations, including Venezuela.

President Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela, addressing the situation from Caracas, accused the US of escalating aggression into the open. He highlighted the historical involvement of the CIA in orchestrating coups but drew attention to the current US administration openly admitting to actions that include killings, regime changes, and destabilization efforts.

The appeal to the UN seeks an investigation and a formal statement from the Security Council emphasizing the importance of respecting the sovereignty of member states.
