Smriti Mandhana showcased exceptional fielding skills in the recent Women’s World Cup match against New Zealand Women, earning her first Best Fielder award for India. At the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, she not only scored a brilliant 109 runs but also played a crucial role in slowing down the Kiwi team’s chase.
Mandhana made key catches, including the dismissals of Amelia Kerr, Jess Kerr, and Rosemary Mair, contributing to India’s victory by 53 runs through DLS method. This win secured India’s spot in the semi-finals of the tournament jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
The team’s fielding coach, Munish Bali, commended all players for their dedicated efforts on the field, singling out Mandhana for the award. Amidst celebrations, teammate Jemimah Rodrigues jokingly remarked on Mandhana’s persistence in seeking the medal, highlighting the camaraderie within the team.
