“White House Disappointed as Machado Wins Nobel Peace Prize”

The White House expressed disappointment over the Nobel Committee’s decision to award Maria Corina Machado, the main opposition leader in Venezuela, the Nobel Peace Prize for 2025. This move was seen as a setback for President Donald Trump, who has actively sought the prestigious award, claiming credit for ending multiple conflicts. The Oval Office criticized the Committee for prioritizing politics over peace in their selection of Machado.

Known as Venezuela’s Iron Lady for her advocacy of democratic principles, Machado was also recognized in Time Magazine’s ‘The 100 Most Influential People of 2025’ list. In response, the White House spokesperson, Steven Cheung, praised President Trump’s commitment to brokering peace agreements and ending wars, emphasizing his humanitarian nature and unparalleled determination.

Following the announcement of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, Trump criticized former President Barack Obama, accusing him of receiving the award undeservingly and criticizing his presidency. Trump highlighted his own achievements in mediating peace in Gaza and claimed to have played a pivotal role in resolving eight conflicts. He expressed frustration over Obama receiving the Nobel Peace Prize early in his tenure, contrasting it with his own efforts and achievements.

Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009, shortly after assuming office, for his efforts to enhance international diplomacy and cooperation. Trump specifically cited his involvement in resolving the India-Pakistan military conflict as one of the major achievements in his peace-making endeavors, despite India denying any external intervention in the ceasefire agreement.

While some Pakistani officials endorsed Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended Trump’s efforts in ending the Israel-Hamas conflict. Meanwhile, Maria Corina Machado, a prominent Venezuelan politician, received the Nobel Peace Prize for her relentless advocacy of democratic rights and her unwavering commitment to transitioning Venezuela from dictatorship to democracy.

The Nobel Committee praised Machado for her courageous pursuit of peace and democracy in Venezuela, acknowledging her resilience in the face of adversity. Despite facing threats, imprisonment, and political persecution, Machado has remained steadfast in her dedication to democratic values, earning her the moniker “the Iron Lady” of Venezuela.
