In a tragic event, three young individuals lost their lives, and several others sustained injuries following a collision with a Vande Bharat Express train near a level crossing in Kasba town, Purnea district, early Friday morning. The incident took place at approximately 5 am as the Vande Bharat train heading towards Patliputra from Jogbani was traversing the area. The victims, aged between 18 and 25, were crossing the tracks close to the Kasba railway crossing when the fast-moving train struck them.
According to Munna Kumar, the station manager of Purnea Junction, a group of youth was attempting to cross the tracks but due to darkness and overcast weather, they failed to notice the approaching train in time.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar conveyed his sorrow over the fatalities and extended his wishes for the swift recovery of the injured individuals. He also offered prayers for comfort to the grieving families. Kumar mentioned, “The tragic demise of four individuals in the Vande Bharat Express train accident at Purnia Junction is deeply saddening. We hope for the quick recuperation of the injured and strength for the bereaved families during this difficult time.”
The injured parties were promptly transferred to Government Medical College (GMC), Purnea, for medical attention. Railway authorities have taken custody of the deceased individuals and initiated an inquiry to determine the cause of the incident.
Officials stated that it is uncertain whether the accident resulted from negligence on the part of the level crossing personnel or due to the victims’ attempt to cross despite the high-speed train’s approach.
