Samsung is gearing up to introduce its inaugural XR headset, known as Project Moohan, by the end of this year. Directly competing with the Apple Vision Pro, Samsung aims to outshine its Cupertino counterpart by incorporating a superior display technology.
According to reports from Android Headlines, Samsung’s Project Moohan is anticipated to feature a high-resolution 4K micro-OLED display, boasting a pixels per inch (ppi) density exceeding 4,000. In comparison, the Apple Vision Pro offers 3,391ppi. While the exact 4,000ppi figure remains unconfirmed, sources suggest that Project Moohan may actually have a slightly lower density of around 3,800ppi.
These rumored figures significantly surpass those of Apple’s Vision Pro, granting Samsung a substantial advantage in the critical aspect of an XR headset’s display quality.
Regarding the design and features of Project Moohan, leaked images showcase the Samsung XR headset from various angles. The device appears to house two lenses and a soft fabric interior, enhancing comfort for extended usage.
Moreover, the Samsung XR headset is expected to adopt a similar external battery design to the Apple Vision Pro, contributing to a lighter overall weight. Reports indicate that Project Moohan weighs 595g.
Powered by the Snapdragon XR2 Plus Gen 2 processor and featuring Google-developed software with Samsung’s proprietary OneUI skin overlay, the headset is poised to offer advanced functionalities. Multiple sensors for eye tracking and gesture control are integrated to provide users with seamless device interaction, complemented by anticipated voice control capabilities.
Although the launch of Project Moohan was reportedly delayed from September to October this year, Samsung has not officially confirmed a release date. However, consumers can anticipate the device to be unveiled before the conclusion of 2025.
Priced between an estimated range of 2.5 million to 4 million Korean Won (approximately Rs 1,58,000 to Rs 2,52,000), the Samsung XR headset aims to offer a competitive pricing structure compared to the Apple Vision Pro, which costs around 4.86 million Korean Won (roughly Rs 3,07,000).
