“Putin Warns US: Hands Off India’s Energy Trade”

Russian President Vladimir Putin criticized the Trump administration for pressuring India to reduce energy trade with Moscow, warning that such actions could negatively impact Washington. Putin made these remarks at the Valdai discussion forum in Sochi, Russia, emphasizing that imposing higher tariffs on Russia’s trade partners could lead to increased global energy prices and compel the US Federal Reserve to maintain high interest rates, potentially slowing down the US economy.

Putin expressed his support for India’s energy policy and anticipated his upcoming visit to India in December. He instructed the government to address the trade imbalance with India, emphasizing the strong bilateral relationship between the two nations. Putin reassured that India should not succumb to external pressure and highlighted the country’s commitment to making decisions independently without bowing to humiliation.

The Russian President emphasized the economic implications of India halting energy purchases from Russia, estimating potential losses of $9-10 billion. He underscored the significance of India’s sovereignty and the public’s vigilance towards political decisions, praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and their amicable relationship.

In a bid to address trade imbalances, Putin proposed potential collaborations with India in agricultural products and pharmaceuticals. He criticized the US for pressuring India over Russian energy imports while simultaneously relying on Moscow for uranium supplies, pointing out the inconsistency in Washington’s stance.

Putin’s comments underscore the complex dynamics of international trade and the interconnected relationships between global powers.
