Pakistan’s renowned batswoman, Sidra Amin, has received an official reprimand for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 clash against India in Colombo. Sidra was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the Code, which pertains to the improper handling of cricket equipment or clothing during an International Match.
The incident took place in the 40th over of Pakistan’s innings when Sidra, visibly frustrated after her dismissal, forcefully struck her bat on the pitch. This action was deemed contrary to the spirit and standards of the game. Following the transgression, Sidra was formally reprimanded and incurred one demerit point on her disciplinary record. This incident marks her first offense within a 24-month period. According to ICC regulations, Level 1 breaches can result in penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a maximum fine of 50% of the player’s match fee, along with the addition of one or two demerit points.
The charge against Sidra was raised by on-field umpires Lauren Agenbag and Nimali Perera, with support from third umpire Kerrin Klaaste and fourth umpire Kim Cotton. Sidra admitted the offense and accepted the penalty proposed by match referee Shandre Fritz from the Emirates ICC International Panel, obviating the need for a formal hearing.
Despite the disciplinary action, Sidra showcased exceptional performance with the bat, scoring a resilient 81 runs off 106 balls. Batting at number 3 in a challenging chase, she anchored Pakistan’s innings against a disciplined Indian bowling attack. Nevertheless, Pakistan fell short by 88 runs, suffering their second defeat in the tournament.
For Pakistan, this loss underscores their ongoing challenges in translating individual brilliance into team success. While Sidra’s innings was a standout performance, the lack of support from the middle and lower order hindered Pakistan’s competitiveness against India.
Looking ahead, Pakistan aims to regroup swiftly for their upcoming World Cup fixture against defending champions Australia on October 8 in Colombo. The team is eager to bounce back from the setback, with Sidra anticipated to play a pivotal role at the top of the batting order.
