OpenAI introduces a significant advancement with ChatGPT, now enabling users to access selected favorite apps directly within the chatbot interface. The company has unveiled fresh integrations with prominent services, including Spotify, Canva, Coursera, Figma, and Zillow, accessible through straightforward text commands in ChatGPT. The announcement took place during OpenAI’s DevDay event, showcasing the utilization of the company’s latest Apps SDK, empowering developers to construct and link third-party tools to the AI platform.
The key objective behind this development is to streamline user activities within ChatGPT without the need to switch between various platforms. For example, users can request ChatGPT to curate a Spotify playlist, craft a design on Canva, or search for property listings on Zillow, all through conversational interactions. To leverage these functionalities, users must first link their app accounts with ChatGPT and then seamlessly provide instructions during their chat sessions.
For instance, users can instruct ChatGPT to generate a morning run playlist on Spotify or design a promotional post for their bakery on Canva, with the chatbot swiftly responding to these commands. Spotify acknowledges that the experience is evolving, emphasizing ongoing enhancements to refine and enrich user interactions in the upcoming weeks and months.
Among the now available apps, Canva offers notable creative features, enabling users to seek design previews and make adjustments effortlessly by issuing simple directives within ChatGPT. Similarly, Figma provides creative capabilities for diagram creation, layout brainstorming, and collaborative design efforts, while Coursera facilitates learning by suggesting relevant online courses and study resources based on user discussions.
Additionally, Zillow’s inclusion caters to real estate needs, allowing users to request specific property listings like “three-bedroom houses with a garden near Delhi,” with the chatbot promptly presenting comprehensive details such as prices, photos, and maps.
OpenAI hints at more forthcoming integrations, with apps like Uber, DoorDash, Target, OpenTable, Peloton, Tripadvisor, and AllTrails in the pipeline. These upcoming integrations will enable users to book rides, order food, make reservations, or plan outdoor adventures seamlessly within ChatGPT.
Looking ahead, OpenAI plans to invite developer submissions later in the year for creating custom apps for ChatGPT, with the intention to curate and publish them in a dedicated app directory following a review process. Developers will have the opportunity to monetize their apps once the guidelines are finalized, offering a potential revenue stream for their innovative creations.
