Nitish Reddy Ruled Out of Initial T20Is due to Injury

India’s cricket team faced a setback as Nitish Reddy was ruled out of the initial three T20Is in the upcoming five-match series that commences on October 28 in Canberra. The versatile fast-bowling all-rounder was unavailable for the series opener due to a left quadriceps injury sustained during the second ODI in Adelaide. Additionally, he experienced neck spasms affecting his recovery and movement. The BCCI Medical Team is closely monitoring his progress, as confirmed in a statement following Australia’s decision to field first in Canberra.

Having made his ODI debut in the recent series against Australia, Nitish stepped in for the injured Hardik Pandya. However, his injury occurred after the second ODI in Adelaide. India is prioritizing his full recovery before his return to the field, especially with a busy cricket season ahead, including a prolonged home series against South Africa in November.

For the T20I series, India opted for a balanced lineup with two fast bowlers, three spinners, and medium pace-bowling all-rounder Shivam Dube. Notably, Arshdeep Singh was left out once again, with Harshit Rana and Jasprit Bumrah as the frontline pacers. Despite queries about Arshdeep’s exclusion in the T20 format where he excels, the team management seems to favor Rana for the second pacer’s role, given his impressive performance in the ODI series, culminating in a four-wicket haul in the Sydney series finale.

India’s return to T20I action marked their first appearance since clinching the Asia Cup title against Pakistan in September. In that final match in Dubai, Shivam Dube served as the second pace bowler in an XI dominated by spinners. Captain Suryakumar Yadav praised Dube’s reliability in the team.

In the crucial 1st T20I match, the team lineups were confirmed as follows:
Australia: Mitchell Marsh (captain), Travis Head, Josh Inglis (wk), Tim David, Mitchell Owen, Marcus Stoinis, Josh Philippe, Xavier Bartlett, Nathan Ellis, Matthew Kuhnemann, Josh Hazlewood.
India: Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav (captain), Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson (wk), Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Harshit Rana, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah.
