“Man Extradited from India to US for Fatal NY Car Crash”

A man of Indian origin, aged 54, who reportedly fled to Mumbai following a fatal car crash on Long Island in New York two decades ago, has been extradited from India to the US to face manslaughter charges, as confirmed by US authorities. Ganesh Shenoy, allegedly involved in the death of a 44-year-old individual in Hicksville on April 11, 2005, was formally charged with manslaughter and is currently being detained without bail, according to a statement from the Nassau County District Attorney’s office.

Shenoy, identified as the driver of a 1993 Volvo that was speeding at nearly double the legal limit, is accused of running a red light on Levittown Parkway and colliding with the victim’s Cadillac, resulting in the victim’s immediate death. The impact of the collision propelled the victim’s vehicle 65 feet and into a stationary box truck, causing extensive damage beyond recognition.

Despite initial false claims to investigators that he had a green light, Shenoy evaded charges by fleeing to Mumbai from New York’s JFK Airport just two weeks after the tragic incident in 2005. Following his indictment by a Nassau County grand jury in August of the same year, Shenoy remained a fugitive until recent efforts by the US Marshals Service, in collaboration with the US Department of Justice and the US Embassy in India, led to his location and extradition.

Pleading not guilty to second-degree manslaughter charges, Shenoy was arraigned and remanded without bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on October 14 and could potentially face a prison sentence ranging from 5 to 15 years if convicted. The successful extradition of Shenoy from India to the US is the first of its kind since 2017, as highlighted by the Nassau County District Attorney’s office.

Nassau District Attorney Anne Donnelly expressed satisfaction in finally bringing Shenoy to face justice after years of evasion, addressing the tragic consequences of the incident that occurred over two decades ago.
