Instagram Threads, a platform by Meta, is introducing a new feature called Communities, similar to its competitor X. Communities are public spaces within Threads centered around specific topics, allowing users to engage with like-minded individuals and discover related content.
Users on Threads can now search and join over 100 communities covering diverse topics such as books, K-pop, and NBA. Upon joining a community, a visible label will be added to the user’s profile, and posts from the community will be prioritized in their feed.
The aim of this feature is to facilitate meaningful connections among users with shared interests. Meta is currently testing the Communities feature, which complements the existing topics and custom feed options introduced last year.
A unique aspect of Threads’ Communities is the personalized Like button, which varies based on the community theme, adding a sense of unity among members. To join a community, users can search for it by name or tap on the topic label in a community post on their feed. Not all interests have dedicated communities yet; only those with a three-dot label offer a join option.
In the future, Threads plans to recognize and incentivize active community members by awarding special badges to top contributors who help foster engaging discussions within the most popular topics. This initiative aims to encourage community participation and engagement.
