“Influenza Outbreak Forces School Closures in Malaysia”

Around 6,000 students in Malaysia have contracted influenza, leading to the closure of several schools to ensure the safety of students and staff, as confirmed by an official from the education ministry. Director General Mohd Azam Ahmad emphasized the country’s preparedness in handling infectious diseases following the Covid-19 pandemic during a statement captured in a video shared by a local news outlet.

The official highlighted the importance of adhering to guidelines in schools, including the use of face masks and limiting large group activities among students to curb the spread of the virus. While the exact number of closed schools was not disclosed, the infections have been identified in various regions nationwide.

Recent data from the health ministry revealed a significant increase in influenza clusters, totaling 97 across Malaysia, compared to 14 in the previous week. The majority of these clusters were reported in educational institutions such as schools and kindergartens, indicating a growing concern for public health and safety.
