The Indian Navy is preparing to inaugurate Androth, the second Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam on Monday. Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command, will oversee the commissioning ceremony.
The inclusion of Androth signifies a significant achievement in the Navy’s ongoing endeavors to bolster maritime defense capabilities and advance indigenous shipbuilding. Crafted by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) in Kolkata, the vessel showcases over 80% indigenous components, showcasing India’s increasing self-sufficiency in defense production.
A spokesperson for the Navy stated, “Androth underscores our dedication to enhancing indigenous capabilities through innovative technologies and in-house solutions. Its deployment will notably strengthen our anti-submarine operations, particularly in shallow coastal waters.”
Designed to operate effectively in littoral regions, where submarine threats demand agile and highly capable platforms, Androth is part of a broader initiative that has seen the Navy recently incorporate several modern warships, including Arnala, Nistar, Udaygiri, and Nilgiri.
