India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr S Jaishankar, was seen delivering 5 out of 20 ambulances to Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi. These images have been circulating online alongside reports of Pakistan conducting airstrikes in Afghanistan. The stark difference in actions is evident.
India is extending support to Afghanistan by providing MRI machines, CT scan machines, vaccines, and cancer medicines. Conversely, Pakistan has been carrying out air strikes in various Afghan provinces.
During the Afghan Foreign Minister’s visit to New Delhi for a meeting with Dr S Jaishankar, India announced the elevation of its technical mission in Kabul to a full-fledged embassy. This move indicates a deliberate effort by India to normalize relations with the Taliban regime.
In contrast, Pakistan has a history of exploiting the Afghan population. Pakistan’s Defence Minister expressed frustration over the ongoing violence, attributing it to the Taliban’s failure to prevent attacks on Pakistan from Afghan territory.
Pakistan’s recent expulsion of over 500,000 refugees has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. The airstrikes conducted by Pakistan in eastern Afghanistan to target Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) camps have raised concerns about Afghan sovereignty violations.
India, in alignment with its civilizational values, has consistently aided Afghanistan through various projects such as building infrastructure, providing healthcare equipment, and offering developmental assistance. India remains committed to supporting Afghanistan’s growth and recovery.
Some of the key initiatives undertaken by India in Afghanistan include the construction of the Salma Dam, Zaranj-Delaram Highway, Parliament building, restoration of Stor Palace, power infrastructure projects, and healthcare facilities. Additionally, India has pledged to continue existing projects, complete stalled initiatives, and initiate new development projects in Afghanistan.
Furthermore, India has extended assistance in disaster relief efforts, defense cooperation, educational scholarships for Afghan students, and multilateral cooperation through bodies like SAARC.
India’s unwavering support stands in contrast to Pakistan’s history of fostering instability and violence in the region. The Chabahar port, facilitated by India, serves as a crucial gateway for Afghanistan’s connectivity and trade, bypassing Pakistan.
