Shubman Gill broke his streak of toss losses by winning the toss for the first time in his Test captaincy career. The fortunate moment occurred as he stepped out for the toss against West Indies at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
Despite his previous five toss defeats in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series earlier this year, India managed to draw the series 2-2. In the first Test of the current home season in Ahmedabad, India lost the toss but still triumphed over West Indies by an innings and 140 runs.
Opting to bat without hesitation, Gill aimed to take advantage of the favorable conditions on Day 1 of the second Test match. His teammates and head coach, including bowlers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Axar Patel, shared in the joy of his toss victory, teasing him in good spirits about being spared from bowling on the opening day.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir, overseeing the team at his home ground, greeted Gill with a smile after the toss. The anticipation of the toss was high among the coaching staff and players, with celebrations breaking out when Gill emerged victorious.
On the field, India maintained an unchanged playing XI, keeping pace spearheads Bumrah and Siraj despite expectations of workload management. The team is preparing for a series in Australia with Bumrah rested for the ODI matches but Siraj included in the squad for the upcoming games in Perth, Adelaide, and Sydney.
After wrapping up the first Test swiftly, India selected their strongest XI for the second match as well. The team compositions for both India and West Indies were announced for the second Test, ensuring a competitive clash between the two sides.
