In Roorkee’s Civil Lines area, a man posing as a soldier was apprehended on Friday following a collaborative effort by the police, Army Intelligence, the Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU), and the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU). The arrest, based on a tip-off from Army Intelligence, was executed swiftly by the joint team.
Reports suggest that Army Intelligence had received intel about a suspicious individual in military attire loitering near the army gate, displaying dubious behavior. In the course of the arrest, law enforcement officials discovered 18 debit cards, an army uniform, a nameplate, an army card, and a forged appointment letter in the man’s possession. An investigation has been initiated to ascertain his intentions and assess any potential security breaches within the cantonment area.
Superintendent of Police Shekhar Chandra Suyal revealed that during questioning, the suspect identified himself as Surendra Kumar from Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district. The individual confessed to utilizing the army uniform to gain unauthorized access to the cantonment area for information gathering purposes.
Authorities are actively probing the extent of any compromised sensitive data and are evaluating security protocols in the vicinity. A case has been registered by the police, who have indicated that further legal proceedings are in progress.
