Crystal Palace Captain Marc Guehi to Leave Club

Crystal Palace’s manager, Oliver Glasner, has officially announced that Marc Guehi, the club’s captain, has communicated his intention to depart the team at the conclusion of the 2025–26 Premier League season when his current contract expires. Despite Crystal Palace’s attempts to secure a new contract for him, the English international has opted not to extend his stay, expressing a desire for a fresh challenge elsewhere. Guehi’s existing contract runs until June 2026, allowing him to leave as a free agent after the season ends.

Glasner informed reporters, “I think Marc has already indicated that he does not wish to sign a new contract, so he will depart next year. They proposed a new contract to Marc, but he declined, stating, ‘No! I want something different.’ And that’s understandable.”

Having joined Crystal Palace from Chelsea in 2021, the 24-year-old Guehi quickly established himself as a dependable center-back in the Premier League. With over 120 appearances across all competitions since his arrival at Selhurst Park, he has played a crucial role in strengthening the club’s defensive setup.

During the recent summer transfer window, Guehi was strongly linked with a move to Liverpool, with reports suggesting a potential £35 million deal was close to completion on deadline day. However, the transfer fell through, and Guehi remained with Palace for the current season.

Despite uncertainties surrounding his future, Guehi has maintained consistent performances under Glasner’s management. Crystal Palace has started the season well, currently occupying the sixth spot in the Premier League standings with three wins, one draw, and three losses, with their only defeat coming against Liverpool earlier in the season.

Throughout Guehi’s tenure, Crystal Palace has also celebrated success in cup competitions, winning the FA Cup by defeating Manchester City and claiming the FA Community Shield with a victory over Liverpool.

As Guehi prepares to depart on a free transfer, several top clubs are reportedly monitoring the defender. Real Madrid is a potential destination, considering their history of signing top free agents like Kylian Mbappe and Antonio Rudiger. Additionally, English giants such as Liverpool and Manchester City may explore options to bring the 24-year-old back to the Premier League.

While Guehi’s departure will undoubtedly be a significant loss for Crystal Palace due to his leadership and defensive composure, the presence of quality defenders like Maxence Lacroix in the squad gives hope to Glasner and his team in maintaining stability post-Guehi’s exit.
