“Kaif Predicts Rohit Sharma’s Challenge in IPL Run Chase”

Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has expressed his belief that Rohit Sharma will face a significant challenge in the upcoming IPL season to surpass the 600-run milestone, a feat the star opener has yet to accomplish in his career.

Rohit, who has led the Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles, came closest to achieving this milestone in 2013 when he scored 538 runs, his highest tally in a single season. Despite consistently delivering match-winning performances over the years, Rohit has not joined the elite group of batters who have crossed the 600-run mark in a single IPL campaign, a feat that players like Virat Kohli have achieved regularly.

Mohammad Kaif recently shared his perspective on Rohit’s batting performance in the IPL, stating that despite Rohit’s exceptional leadership skills, he has not fully utilized his batting potential.

“We often discuss Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya, but Rohit Sharma has not reached the 700-800 run mark in a season. While he garners points for his captaincy and experience in the IPL, he falls short when compared to batters like Virat Kohli in terms of run-scoring. He performs well in a couple of matches and earns the Man of the Match title,” Kaif remarked on his YouTube channel.

In the last IPL season, Rohit accumulated 418 runs with an impressive strike rate of 149.29, including four half-centuries. However, Kaif highlighted that Rohit’s ultimate challenge lies in surpassing the 500-600 run mark in the upcoming IPL season, especially after his recent weight loss.

“Hence, his primary test this season will be to exceed the 500-run or 600-run milestone. Sai Sudharsan scored 750 runs in the previous season. Therefore, Rohit Sharma will aim for a 600-run target as he has slimmed down and is in good form. He will be eager to score runs in this IPL,” Kaif added.

Amid rumors of Mumbai Indians (MI) parting ways with their former captain before IPL 2025, the franchise decided to retain him for Rs 16.30 Crore. The team once again dismissed speculations of Rohit’s transfer to the Kolkata Knight Riders for the upcoming season. Rohit emerged as the second-highest run-scorer for MI in 2025, accumulating 418 runs from 15 innings. He is expected to play a crucial role with the bat in the upcoming season after stepping down from captaincy both in the IPL and at the international level.
