The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) raised concerns with IndiGo Airlines regarding its operational performance decline in November. The airline encountered 1,232 flight cancellations and delays during the month, leading the DGCA to initiate an investigation into its performance.
In response, the DGCA stated that it is currently assessing the situation in collaboration with the airline to address and mitigate the issues causing flight cancellations and delays, aiming to minimize passenger inconvenience.
This action was taken following the cancellation of 85 flights at three airports due to various factors such as crew shortages, technical difficulties, and airport congestion. Notably, Delhi Airport had 38 flight cancellations, Mumbai Airport faced 33 cancellations, and Ahmedabad Airport experienced 14 cancellations.
Passengers expressed dissatisfaction on social media platforms, sharing their experiences and frustrations with the flight disruptions. IndiGo Airlines issued an apology to passengers for the significant disruptions in its operations over the past two days due to unforeseen operational challenges.
The airline cited multiple reasons for the disruptions, including minor technology issues, winter schedule changes, adverse weather conditions, increased aviation system congestion, and updated crew rostering rules impacting operations. Out of the 1,232 cancelled flights, 755 were due to staff shortages, 92 due to Air Traffic Control failures, 258 due to airport restrictions, and 127 for other reasons.
IndiGo Airlines mentioned implementing measures to normalize operations within a two-day period, emphasizing their commitment to improving punctuality and customer service. They assured customers that their teams are working diligently to address the issues and stabilize operations promptly.
