Entering the smartphone realm as a fresh contender, Nothing, a tech startup led by former OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, has swiftly garnered a loyal following. With an enthusiastic fan base advocating for its products, Nothing initiated a unique campaign last year inviting fans to reimagine one of its existing phones. This initiative laid the groundwork for the creation of the Nothing Phone 2a Plus Community Edition. Building on the success, Nothing has now unveiled the second edition, the Nothing Phone 3a Community Edition, utilizing an existing Nothing phone as its base.
According to Nothing, the development of the Nothing Phone 3a Community Edition involved a nine-month process and the evaluation of 700 submissions. After meticulous selection, the company identified four winners: Emre Kayganacl (Hardware Design), Ambrogio Tacconi and Louis Aymond (Accessory), Jad Zock (Lock Screen Clock and Wallpaper Design), and Sushruta Sarkar (Marketing Campaign). Limited to just 1,000 units, the product incorporates elements crafted by the winners personally and submitted for review. While the Nothing Phone 2a Plus Community Edition boasted a glow-in-the-dark back, the newer Nothing Phone 3a Community Edition takes a more subtle approach.
Design of the Nothing Phone 3a Community Edition
Unlike the conventional black, white, or blue tones, the Phone 3a Community Edition stands out with a vibrant teal color. Retaining Nothing’s distinctive transparent design, the phone’s most remarkable feature remains unchanged, even in this fresh hue. The chosen color scheme extends to the retail packaging, drawing inspiration from 90s-era gadgets.
The teal hue is complemented by pink and yellow accents. Notably, the Essential Key now sports a pink hue instead of black, while the power button takes on a silver tone. Interestingly, the volume rocker retains its original black color. The overall design blends bright and vivid colors, creating a visually striking aesthetic that demands attention. The Glyph lights on the Nothing Phone 3a Community Edition mirror those of the standard Phone 3a.
Accessories for the Nothing Phone 3a Community Edition
A playful addition to the Phone 3a Community Edition is a unique accessory – a set of dice. Packaged in a box, the set includes six dice, each featuring numbers in Nothing’s distinctive font. The back of the dice box includes instructions for a game named Farkle, offering users a fun pastime
