India’s victorious cricketers Deepti Sharma and Sree Charani have been let go by their respective teams in the Women’s Premier League on November 6. Deepti, who shone as the Player Of The Tournament in India’s successful World Cup campaign, now faces the challenge of finding a new team for WPL 2026.
During the tournament, Deepti showcased her prowess by claiming 22 wickets and scoring 215 runs, playing a pivotal role in India’s triumph over South Africa in the final match. In a standout performance, the 28-year-old took five wickets and contributed with a crucial fifty to secure victory. Sree Charani, on the other hand, impressed with her economical bowling, securing 14 wickets in nine matches with an impressive economy rate of 4.96.
Harleen Deol, another notable player, was released by the Gujarat Giants after a commendable performance, scoring 169 runs in seven matches at an average of 33.80. Meanwhile, UP Warriorz retained Shweta Sehrawat, parting ways with Kranti Goud and Renuka Singh, who were released by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Renuka, who played 23 matches for RCB, claimed 14 wickets during her time with the team. Other members of the World Cup-winning squad released include Sneh Rana and Arundhati Reddy, who will now seek new opportunities in the upcoming auction. Additionally, Radha Yadav and Uma Chetry, pivotal players in India’s World Cup journey, were released by Delhi Capitals.
In a positive turn, India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana were retained by the Mumbai Indians and RCB, respectively. Six members of the World Cup-winning squad were retained by their franchises, while Pratika Rawal did not secure a contract in the WPL and is anticipated to feature in the auction.
