One individual implicated in the case of a doctor’s suicide in Satara has been apprehended. The arrested person, Prashant Bankar, the son of the landlord where the doctor resided, underwent a medical examination following the arrest, as stated by the police.
Satara District Police have filed charges of rape and abetment to suicide against PSI Gopal Badane and Prashant Bankar. Bankar was taken into custody on Friday, while PSI Badane is currently evading capture.
Allegedly, Prashant is accused of psychologically tormenting the doctor in collaboration with the police officer, pressuring her to vacate the rented accommodation. It was revealed that Prashant had close ties to the police officers accused of misconduct by the doctor.
The doctor, aged 28 and working at a government hospital in Phaltan, was originally from Beed district. She was discovered deceased in a hotel room on Thursday night. In her suicide note, she accused PSI Gopal Badane of abusing her repeatedly over a five-month period and named Prashant Bankar as the individual causing her mental distress.
Subsequent to the tragic event, authorities conducted a post-mortem examination on her body and commenced forensic scrutiny of the note inscribed on her palm. Efforts are underway to locate the missing police officer.
Meanwhile, the victim’s family members have asserted that she was subjected to both political and police coercion to fabricate inaccurate post-mortem reports. A family member expressed, “There was significant pressure from the police and political entities for her to fabricate a false post-mortem report. She attempted to raise a complaint about this. Justice must prevail.”
According to her cousin speaking to ANI, “Last year, she faced substantial pressure from the police and political circles. She was coerced into producing false post-mortem reports. Despite writing to the DCP to report the issue, no action was taken.”
The investigation continues as authorities seek to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
