In a recent development, Cloudflare faced another outage shortly after a significant service disruption that lasted for several hours. This incident marks the second major outage for Cloudflare within a month, following a similar occurrence in November that briefly impacted services like Spotify, ChatGPT, and Truth Social. The recent outage on Friday affected access to various popular platforms such as Canva, Zerodha, and Groww, leading to an influx of complaints from frustrated users. However, the company managed to restore its services within approximately an hour.
During the outage, even the outage tracking website, Downdetector, experienced downtime. Upon restoration, Downdetector reported that the outage occurred around 2 PM IST on that day, with over 2,308 users reporting the issue. Users on social media platforms humorously commented on the situation, highlighting the irony that Downdetector, which tracks outages, also relies on Cloudflare’s services.
Despite the temporary disruption, the affected apps are now back online. Groww App promptly notified its users about the technical issues caused by the Cloudflare outage and confirmed that the app is now functioning correctly.
The outage had a widespread impact across various continents, causing slowdowns, login failures, and complete blackouts on several popular websites. Social networks like X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, and Discord experienced difficulties in loading feeds or connecting users. Productivity and AI tools such as Canva, Notion, ChatGPT, and Perplexity faced interruptions, while entertainment platforms like Spotify and Letterboxd encountered access errors. Financial and tech services, including Coinbase, Groww, and SpaceX’s operational sites, were also affected. Additionally, e-commerce platforms using Shopify reported intermittent accessibility issues for their storefronts and admin dashboards, particularly disruptive during peak online shopping periods.
The incident serves as a reminder of Cloudflare’s crucial role in powering a significant portion of the internet infrastructure, highlighting its essential nature in supporting daily app usage.
