Doctor Coerced into Falsifying Reports, Suicide Note Alleges

The doctor’s cousin, who was related to the doctor that committed suicide and accused a police officer of rape, revealed that the doctor was coerced into fabricating false post-mortem reports. The cousin also mentioned that the doctor’s complaints to higher-ranking police officials were ignored.

According to the cousin, “She faced significant pressure from the police and political entities last year. They insisted she create false post-mortem reports. Despite reaching out to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) with her concerns, no action was taken.”

“She was pressured to falsify reports, even in cases where patients were not hospitalized, she was instructed to provide misleading reports,” the cousin added.

A doctor working at a government hospital in Satara, Maharashtra, was discovered deceased in a hotel room, reportedly due to suicide. The doctor left a note accusing a police officer of rape and sexual harassment over a five-month period.

The victim, hailing from Beed, was employed at a nearby hospital. Authorities initiated an investigation and conducted a post-mortem examination, amidst claims of undue influence from political and law enforcement bodies.

In the suicide letter, two individuals were named: Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane faces allegations of repeated sexual harassment, and a person named Prashant Bankar, described as a techie, is accused of prolonged mental harassment.

Both accused individuals have been charged with rape and abetment to suicide, as confirmed by authorities. Additionally, officials are examining whether undue pressure to manipulate medical records played a role in the doctor’s demise.

A local police official stated, “A case has been registered, and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination. We are investigating the claims made in the victim’s handwritten suicide note.”

Rupali Chakankar, the head of the Maharashtra Women’s Commission, expressed, “We have taken notice of the situation and directed the Satara Police to take stringent action against the accused parties. Task forces have been mobilized to locate the suspects.”

The doctor’s family asserted that despite seeking help, the doctor received no assistance from higher authorities. They are hopeful that a thorough investigation will address the accusations and hold those involved accountable.
