If you find that your Universal Account Number (UAN) is linked to an incorrect member ID, don’t worry, as this is a common issue that can occur when changing jobs or due to data entry mistakes. The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced a convenient online solution on its unified member portal to help members rectify this error.
Having an incorrect member ID associated with your UAN can impact various aspects such as your provident fund balance, employment history, and the smooth processing of future PF transfers or withdrawals. Therefore, it is crucial to promptly address this discrepancy. EPFO empowers users to remove the wrong ID themselves without the need for physical office visits.
To initiate the delinking process, members must log in to the EPFO unified portal using their UAN, password, and CAPTCHA. Upon successful login, they should navigate to the ‘Service History’ section where all linked member IDs are listed. Here, the incorrect ID can be selected, and the delink option can be chosen.
During the delinking process, the portal will prompt users to provide a reason for the action. Subsequently, an OTP will be sent to the mobile number registered with the EPFO for verification purposes. Once the OTP is entered, the request will be processed after validation.
Upon successful delinking, a confirmation message will be displayed, and the incorrect ID will be removed from the service history. Users can verify this by refreshing the page or logging in again. However, delinking may not be possible if an employer has already submitted an Electronic Challan-cum-Return (ECR) using the incorrect member ID. In such instances, users will receive an error notification and may require assistance from their employer or EPFO.
The online delinking feature introduced by EPFO aims to streamline processes, reduce paperwork, and facilitate accurate maintenance of PF details for employees. Correcting an erroneous member ID now only takes a few minutes, enabling users to prevent future challenges with their provident fund accounts.
