Following a prolonged search across Nizamabad, Sheikh Riyaz, the suspect in the killing of constable E Pramod, was apprehended on Friday. Riyaz, who had a history of multiple offenses, had evaded authorities since fatally stabbing the constable. After days of tracking, law enforcement located him hiding in the cabin of a stationary lorry.
Authorities pinpointed Riyaz near Sarampur village on the outskirts of Nizamabad, where he had concealed himself inside an abandoned lorry for two days. During the operation to capture him, shots were fired, leading to his arrest near a shed as he attempted to flee, with subsequent discovery of bloodstains.
Riyaz, facing a litany of criminal charges across seven police stations, including theft and chain-snatching, had a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head. The Director-General of Police, Shivadar Reddy, instructed senior officials to expedite his capture. Multi-Zone Inspector General Chandrasekhar Reddy was directed to oversee the operation personally, with special attention to supporting the slain constable’s family.
In response to the directives, the Nizamabad Police Commissioner formed eight specialized teams and offered a reward of Rs 50,000 for information leading to Riyaz’s arrest. Leveraging various leads, officers narrowed down potential locations where he could be hiding.
With the suspect now in custody, authorities emphasized that the investigation is ongoing. Plans are underway to swiftly charge him with murder and previous offenses under stringent penal provisions.
