Users on X quickly began investigating the origins of accounts they had interacted with, leading to the revelation that numerous prominent accounts aligned with the MAGA movement were not actually based in the United States. Screenshots circulated showing accounts promoting “Patriot Voice” operating from regions like Eastern Europe, Africa, and parts of Asia.
Democratic influencer Harry Sisson expressed excitement over the revelations, highlighting the exposure of foreign-run hyper-patriotic accounts. Left-leaning users echoed concerns about foreign interference in online discourse that they had been warning about for years.
The most viral instances included a MAGA fan page with a large following registered in Eastern Europe and an Ivanka Trump fan account based in Nigeria. The disclosures created a frenzy, with critics arguing that it shattered the facade of grassroots support.
Despite the initial chaos, X’s head of product, Nikita Bier, clarified that the system still had some inaccuracies. Some users reported wildly incorrect location information, attributing discrepancies to factors like VPN usage and Starlink’s routing.
