Lalit Keshre, co-founder and CEO of Groww, has recently joined the ranks of India’s billionaires following the successful market debut of the fintech company, which led to a significant surge in its share price.
Established in 2016 with a vision to simplify investing for young Indians, Groww has evolved into one of the leading fintech firms in the country, propelling Keshre’s personal wealth above Rs 9,000 crore.
Currently holding 55.91 crore shares in Groww, representing a 9.06% stake in the company, Keshre’s total holding value at around Rs 9,448 crore is inching close to the USD 1 billion milestone, with the stock trading at approximately Rs 169 per share.
Founded in 2016 by former Flipkart employees Lalit Keshre, Harsh Jain, Ishan Bansal, and Neeraj Singh, Groww initially focused on mutual fund investments but later expanded its offerings to include stocks, futures and options, US stocks, and other investment products, attracting a vast number of first-time investors.
Having grown up in Lepa, a village in Madhya Pradesh, Lalit Keshre, now 44, was brought up by his grandparents in modest surroundings and received his education at the sole English-medium school in the Khargone district.
His journey took a turn when he learned about the Joint Entrance Exam, which he successfully cleared, leading him to pursue his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering with a specialization in microelectronics at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay.
Prior to establishing Groww, Keshre gained extensive experience in the technology and product sectors.
As the co-founder and CEO of Groww since May 2016, based in Bengaluru, he has steered the company’s growth for over seven years, transforming it into one of India’s premier retail investment platforms.
During his tenure as a product specialist at Flipkart from July 2013 to April 2016, Keshre contributed significantly to the growth of the company, particularly in developing and overseeing Flipkart Quick and other key product areas during the firm’s high-growth phase.
He also ventured into entrepreneurship by founding Eduflix from March 2011 to June 2013, focusing on educational initiatives that later influenced his work at Groww.
With a background in product management and engineering roles, Keshre spent almost seven years at Ittiam Systems in Bengaluru, from August 2004 to March 2011, laying the groundwork for Groww’s success.
