McDonald praised Marsh’s current form, stating that he is batting at a level comparable to his best performances over an extended period. Despite being the white-ball team captain, Marsh faces challenges in managing his responsibilities while preparing for a potential Test comeback.
One key consideration for Marsh’s Ashes prospects is the scheduling overlap between the Sheffield Shield and the initial two Ashes Tests. There is a chance for Marsh to participate in Shield rounds five and six if he is not chosen for the first Ashes Test, allowing him to showcase his red-ball skills in domestic cricket.
McDonald emphasized that Marsh’s batting statistics leading up to his exclusion last season were among the best for Australian players since the 2023 Ashes at Headingley.
