Australia has selected young leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha to fill in for seasoned bowler Adam Zampa in the upcoming ODI series against India. This decision was made as Zampa’s wife, Harriet, is due to give birth to their second child. Zampa, who showcased his skills in Perth, Adelaide, and Sydney in the recent home series, will be absent from the India tour to be with his family.
Zampa, a key player in Australia’s limited-overs squad, has been a standout performer in men’s T20Is, leading the wicket-taking charts. His exceptional performance in Adelaide earned him the Player-of-the-Match title, demonstrating his consistency and precision.
At 23 years old, Sangha is regarded as one of Australia’s most promising spin talents. Playing for Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League, he has already gained international exposure with seven T20I appearances, the last of which was in 2023. His impactful debut involved taking four wickets for 31 runs against South Africa, instantly showcasing his potential.
Born to Indian parents in Sydney’s south-western suburbs, Sangha initially pursued fast bowling before transitioning to leg-spin during his early teenage years. His rapid progress through the New South Wales and Australia youth setups can be attributed to his natural control and ability to generate sharp turn on the ball.
The Australia squad for the upcoming India T20Is will include Mitchell Marsh as captain, with players such as Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, Tim David, and others forming part of the team roster.
