OpenAI has officially launched a promotion offering free ChatGPT Go subscriptions to users in India. The one-year subscription is now available at no cost, starting from November 4th. This offer is open to all ChatGPT account holders in India.
Introduced in August this year, ChatGPT Go was initially priced at Rs 399 per month, providing users with enhanced access to OpenAI’s latest GPT-5 model. India ranks as the second-largest market for active ChatGPT users, prompting OpenAI to extend this complimentary one-year subscription to the Indian market.
Existing ChatGPT Go subscribers in India will automatically transition to the free one-year plan. To access the free ChatGPT Go subscription, users need to log in to the ChatGPT website or app with their existing credentials. Upon logging in, users may encounter a prompt to upgrade to ChatGPT Go for free. If not prompted, users can navigate to the ‘My Profile’ section, select ‘Upgrade,’ and proceed to choose the free ChatGPT Go plan.
While the plan is complimentary for a year, users will be required to provide payment details for activation. ChatGPT Go offers expanded access to the GPT-5 model, granting users increased message limits, image generation capabilities, and file uploads compared to free users. Additionally, users on this plan benefit from a larger context window for improved continuity and access to custom GPTs and projects.
Moreover, ChatGPT Go enables users to utilize the GPT-5 model for knowledge searches within local files and the web, unlike the free plan, which restricts knowledge searches to the web only. Notably, ChatGPT Go does not include access to APIs, special modes, OpenAI’s video generation platform Sora, or the coding agent Codex.
