Pakistan Objects to India-Afghanistan Statement

Pakistan has expressed strong objections to parts of the recent India-Afghanistan Joint Statement and comments made by Afghan Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi during his visit to New Delhi. The Pakistan foreign ministry raised concerns about the mention of Kashmir as part of India, stating it violates relevant UN Security Council resolutions. Pakistan also disputed Muttaqi’s assertion that terrorism is solely Pakistan’s internal issue, citing the presence of terrorist elements in Afghanistan targeting Pakistan. This diplomatic tension comes amidst escalating security challenges in Pakistan. In response, India thanked Afghanistan for condemning a recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir and emphasized the need for peace, stability, and mutual trust in the region. The exchange of comments occurred during Muttaqi’s visit to India, marking a significant diplomatic engagement since the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan in 2021.
