More Indians may soon consider seeking opportunities abroad as countries like Germany, Japan, Finland, and Taiwan actively recruit Indian workers with salaries up to three to four times higher than those in India, according to investment banker and advisor Sarthak Ahuja.
Germany, facing a significant shortage of skilled professionals in sectors such as healthcare, IT, engineering, and construction, plans to issue 90,000 skilled work visas to Indians annually, a substantial increase from the previous 20,000 visas. The country has over 700,000 job openings across various industries and has relaxed language and degree requirements for tech professionals.
In Japan, an agreement with India allows for the migration of 500,000 Indian workers over the next five years, with a focus on engineers and IT professionals who could fill 20% of all IT jobs in Japan. Median salaries for these roles are expected to be around Rs 40 lakh per year. Japan is also opening doors for nurses, offering attractive salaries of Rs 3–4 lakh per month.
Finland is emerging as an appealing destination as it now offers Permanent Residency to skilled Indian professionals with a master’s degree who can pass a language exam in Finnish or Swedish. The country has seen a 350% increase in the Indian workforce over the past decade and provides an EU Blue Card for professionals in healthcare, IT, and engineering.
Taiwan is seeking Indian workers, particularly from the North Eastern states, to fill roles in manufacturing, citing cultural similarities as a driving factor. While living costs may be higher abroad, the potential for savings is significantly greater, as highlighted by Ahuja.
Ahuja suggests that learning German or Japanese could open up vast opportunities for job seekers and entrepreneurs to connect skilled Indian workers with foreign employers. As global economies welcome Indian professionals, the demand for talent from India remains strong, making it an opportune time for those considering overseas opportunities.
