OpenAI has implemented a new policy on its AI-generation app, Sora, where users will now be charged for generating extra videos beyond the free daily limit. Bill Peebles, the chief of Sora, announced this change, stating that users who exceed the limit will need to pay $4 (approximately Rs 350) for 10 additional video generations. The company plans to reduce the free limit as more users join the platform to manage the growing demand.
According to Peebles, ChatGPT Pro users have a daily limit of 100 video generations, while other users, including those on the free plan, are limited to 30 videos per day. OpenAI intends to lower the free limit soon to accommodate the platform’s expansion, as maintaining the current limit may strain the available resources.
Beyond charging for video generations, OpenAI aims to establish a new economy within Sora to enable creators to monetize their content. Peebles hinted at future features where users can charge for using “Cameos” of individuals in their videos. This feature, which allows users to include individuals who have consented to appear in cameo videos, will initially benefit early adopters on the Sora app.
Furthermore, OpenAI recently introduced additional restrictions on Cameos in Sora, granting users more control over their appearances in AI-generated videos. While the Sora app is currently exclusive to iOS users, an Android version is expected to launch soon. The app is accessible in select regions, including the US, Canada, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
