Paytm founder and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma met Open AI CEO Sam Altman during the latter’s visit to India and couldn’t resist adding a witty touch to the moment.
Reacting to a post featuring his photo with Altman, Sharma said, “Sam bh-ai,” cleverly blending the Hindi word for brother (bhai) with AI, a nod to OpenAi’s expertise.
The official X handle of Paytm had shared the photo, writing, “When VSS asks ChatGPT, and Sam Altman decides to answer the prompt in real-time.”

Altman, currently on his second tour of India, has been emphasising the country’s growing role in AI development. During a meeting with IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, he spoke about India’s expanding AI ecosystem, from chip production to AI applications.
‘India is an incredibly important market for AI in general, and for OpenAi in particular. It’s our second-biggest market, and we have tripled our users here in the last year,” Altman said, adding, “The country has embraced AI technology and is building the entire stack, from chips to models and applications.”
